Community Projects

Music and art change lives, and they change them most when they start early and stay close to home. Here is what we are building next for Bryan and the Brazos Valley. Some of these projects are already running and some are coming soon, but every one of them needs people like you.

Fourth Friday Open Mic at Blackwater Draw

Happening now. A free open mic every fourth Friday (this month it’s Friday, October 16th, moved for the festival) at Blackwater Draw Brewing Co. gives new and developing performers a real stage, a real audience, and a path to paid shows. Sign-up is open to everyone, an experienced host or featured local musician anchors each night, and standout performers are invited to play paid slots at our regular shows. Free to perform and free to attend.

Music in Schools

Coming soon. Local musicians will visit classrooms across the Brazos Valley to meet students, answer questions about life as a working musician, and play short live sets. Student showcases will let young performers play alongside or open for local artists. Visits will be free to schools, our musicians will be paid by Tilted Fuzz Collective, and schools with limited arts resources will come first.

Art in the Classroom

Coming soon. Once each school year, we will bring guest visual artists into partner classrooms to teach for a day. Students will get a hands-on lesson, hear how a working artist creates, and see their own pieces displayed at a Tilted Fuzz event or festival. The message is simple: art is a real path, and it is open to you.

Emerging Artist Showcase

Coming soon. At our festivals and shows, emerging local visual artists and makers will get booth space to show and sell their work, often for the very first time. Applications will be open to everyone with published selection criteria, free or reduced booth fees for first-time and emerging artists, and spots reserved for new applicants at every event.

Real Artists, Real Art

We champion music and art made by people. Performers and showcase artists will affirm that the work they present is their own human-made creation, and we will host artist talks, panels, and classroom segments on how human creativity works, artists' rights, and how to find and support human-made music and art.

Who We're Looking For

These projects only happen with the right people behind them. If you see yourself below, we would love to hear from you.

Teachers and school arts staff. Music, art, and classroom teachers who want to host a visiting musician or guest artist, help shape lessons, or bring students to a showcase.

School and district administrators. Principals, fine arts coordinators, and district staff who can help us build school partnerships and walk through the approval process the right way.

Parents and PTA/PTO leaders. Champions who can open doors at their school and connect families to free shows and events.

Musicians and teaching artists. Local performers who want to play classroom sets, host or feature at open mic, or mentor first-time performers. These are paid opportunities.

Visual artists and makers. Painters, illustrators, crafters, and makers who want to lead a guest-artist day in a classroom or apply to the Emerging Artist Showcase.

Youth safety and policy advisors. Educators, counselors, and legal or nonprofit professionals who can help us build strong safety policies for working with young people.

Event volunteers. Friendly faces to help with setup, the door, merch, and sign-ups at open mics, festivals, and our First Friday booth.

Sound and stage crew. Anyone who wants to learn or lend a hand with live sound, stage management, and load-in.

Photographers and videographers. Storytellers who can capture shows, classroom visits, and showcases so we can share the impact.

Grant writers and fundraisers. People who can help us find and win the funding that keeps our programs free.

Social media and design help. Creatives who can help spread the word with posts, flyers, and graphics.

Venue and business partners. Spaces and sponsors who want to host or support free, all-ages music and art.
